WHY NEW HAVEN
New Haven is the ideal location for a music festival. New Haven draws on six local colleges in a town where roads radiate out to all parts of the state. New Haven's music history is rich. The New Haven Symphony orchestra is the fourth oldest in the country, Glen Miller adopted New Haven as his home and formed the Yale band. Jim Morrison tried to incite a riot and got arrested. Cutler's Records Store is one of the oldest in the country. Jimi Hendrix played Woolsey Hall with tickets being sold for only $4. Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker, Janis Joplin, Elvis, Muddy Waters and countless others have performed in New Haven. The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan have chosen Toad's Place to kick off thier world tours, and on top right now is Grammy nominated Hatebreed; a heavy metal hardcore band from New Haven.

Located right on I-95, America's busiest highway, and being centered between New York and Boston, New Haven has always been considered an important testing ground for artists trying to break out in the big cities. any act that makes it big here can have a shot on the world stage.

Our task during East Rock West Rock (ERWR) is to celebrate local music venues and organizations of all types and sizes. We want to embrace all types of music and genres. we want this to be a celebration of music and of New Haven. We want to have some memorabile music moments and most important we want to have fun.

WHERE, WHEN, WHO?
ERWR will take place at the ideal time of year, September 17-25th. This was strategically placed just before CMJ, New York City's music festival. This will give ERWR an opportunity to draw from various artist who will be performing at CMJ. Also during early fall over 100,000 college students from around the New Haven area will return to the universities and colleges. This will be an exciting and different event to offer the students. The week will draw in students, young professionals, families and people of all ages. we will touch on all genre's from Hip-hop, Rock, Jazz to blues and not only in music but in plays and movie premiers as well.
